Ambrose Goodman, his parents’ only son, was born in Cayuga, Ontario but grew up in Toronto, attending the Normal School before entering UTS in 1910. After graduating in 1913, he enrolled at University College, studying Arts, but left to enlist with the University Corps in 1916. Although he was admitted to Osgoode Hall Law School in 1917, he instead took up his commission with the ‘Great War Veterans Overseas Company’ of the 109th Regiment, later part of the 1st Central Ontario Regiment, and went overseas in November. In April 1918, he arrived in France, where he joined the 116th Battalion. Five months later, on the first day of the Battle of Amiens, he was wounded in the thigh, either by a shell or a gunshot. He was taken to the No. 8 General Hospital in Rouen, and, a week later, died from his injuries. He is buried in Saint Sever Cemetery in Rouen.
